Glasgow-Born Musician Alan Mair Releases New Solo Album FIELD OF ONE

Glasgow-born musician Alan Mair, known for his work with The Beatstalkers and The Only Ones, has released a new solo album, FIELD OF ONE.

Released on 3 August 2026, the album adds a new chapter to a career stretching back to Glasgow's music scene of the 1960s.

Mair was a member of The Beatstalkers, one of the Scottish bands to emerge during that period, before later becoming a founding member of The Only Ones. The latter went on to gain an international following and became particularly associated with the late-1970s British rock and punk scene.

His new album focuses on themes including memory, past decisions and their consequences.

The lead single, How Could I Let This Happen, examines the way choices made at particular moments can continue to shape people's lives years later.

Mair wrote, performed and produced the recording, playing the instruments apart from lead guitar, which was contributed by Zal Cleminson. Paul Rabigar also appears on keyboards.

The release brings Mair's career back into focus more than five decades after his early years performing in Glasgow.

His history with The Beatstalkers places him within a formative period for the city's popular music scene, before his subsequent work with The Only Ones took him to audiences outside Scotland.

FIELD OF ONE is Mair's latest solo release and was released on 3 August, with How Could I Let This Happen as its lead single.
